Co-Editor, Greater Good magazine
Dacher Keltner, Ph.D, faculty director and founder of the Greater Good Science Center, is a professor of psychology at UC Berkeley and the co-editor of Greater Good magazine. A leading expert in social intelligence and a prolific author, Dr. Keltner has received numerous national prizes and grants. He studies the nature of human goodness, including compassion, awe, laughter, beauty, and love, as well as the effects of power, hierarchy, social class, psychopathology, and moral intuitions.

Dr. Keltner has presented his research to His Holiness the Dalai Lama as part of continuing dialogue between the Dalai Lama and scientists. An outstanding, compassionate speaker, he has won two University-wide awards for distinguished teaching, and Wired magazine recently named a podcast from his course on human emotion one of the five best in the country. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Time magazine, on CNN, and on KQED's "Forum with Michael Krasny," among other media outlets.

Executive Director

Christine Carter, Ph.D., is the executive director of the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley. She studies the sociology of happiness in children. Carter received her B.A. from Dartmouth College, where she was a Senior Fellow, and her Ph.D. from UC Berkeley. The author of The Other Side of Silence, she has also worked as an innovation consultant for Fortune 500 companies. Predictably, Carter is happiest when she is with her friends and her family. She and her husband Mike and two spunky daughters, Fiona and Molly, live near San Francisco.

jason_marshJason Marsh
Co-editor, Greater Good magazine

Jason Marsh is the co-editor of Greater Good, the flagship publication of The Greater Good Science Center. Previously he was the managing editor of The Responsive Community, the quarterly journal published at the Institute for Communitarian Policy Studies in Washington, D.C. He has also worked as a documentary producer, kindergarten teacher, and video editor. Jason is a graduate of Brown University and the UC-Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.

Managing Editor

Jeremy Adam Smith is the managing editor of Greater Good magazine and author of Twenty-First-Century Dad, forthcoming from Beacon Press in 2010. His articles and essays have appeared in the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Mothering, The Nation, San Francisco Chronicle, Utne Reader, Wired, and numerous other periodicals and books. His articles to date for Greater Good magazine focus on sociable robots, isolated families, altruism in science fiction, and the virtues of sadness. Prior to joining Greater Good, Jeremy was the founding director of the Independent Press Development Fund and publisher of Dollars and Sense magazine. He blogs about the politics of parenting at Daddy Dialectic.

Tom White is the Circulation and Marketing Director for Greater Good magazine. Tom has over 20 years experience in managing and consulting to nonprofit, academic and for-profit publishers, including the Whole Earth Review, University of California Press, Pacific News Service, California Coast & Ocean and Bay Nature magazines. jill_suttieJill Suttie
Book Review Editor

Jill Suttie, Psy.D., is Greater Good's book review editor and a regular contributor to the magazine. She received her Psy.D. from the University of San Francisco, where she studied depression and body image issues in new mothers. Prior to joining Greater Good, Jill has worked as a psychologist in private practice, a college counselor and administrator, and a biochemist. She is also a musician and is currently recording her first CD of original songs, to be released in 2008. Jill lives with her husband and two children in Berkeley.

Alfonso Jaramillo
Design Editor

Alfonso Jaramillo is a visual artist and graphic designer based in Berkeley. He has been Greater Good 's design editor from the magazine's inception in 2004. As the creative director of his firm, iarte design, Alfonso has designed for a number of organizations and institutions that serve the public interest. He takes a multidisciplinary, investigative approach to design, drawing on social as well as visual research methods. His work has received critical praise for its experimental and participatory design techniques.
